Question: What US president ever was considered good by the majority of ordinary people (if any)!?

FDR!.!.!.he pulled us out of a recession withj the WPA program, and shepherded us thru Pearl Harbor, much like Giuliani showed real leadership during 911!.!.!.!.!.I mean !.!.!.4 terms!!.!.!.!.!.!.

after that!.!.!.Kennedy!.!.!.although he brought us closer to diaster, and was more reckless than the American people ever knew at the time!.!.!.he was trusted, admired, and beloved!.!.no amount of dirt dished out on him has much changed that!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

With all due respect to your question, you have to understand that being president is HARD!. Although it seems as a logical job to the majority of people, it really isn't, so it's not fair to judge a president as "GOOD!." You should also know that "good" is a relative term - what I consider good may not be up to your standards!. But if you do observe the approval rates of presidents, certain presidents have had a higher approval rate!. All presidents have good and bad events that characterize their presidency - sometimes the bad overshadows the good (for example LBJ - he CHAMPIONED CIVIL RIGHTS - but people condemned him for the Vietnam War), take a look at Nixon - he was a pretty "good" president until he tapped the Dem's phone lines (Watergate Scandal!.!.!.) Circumstance is also very crucial - Herbert Hoover was loved by the people until the depression hit - he wasn't able to help the people in an efficient way, but that doesn't mean he was a BAD president!. I hope you understand my point!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ronald Wilson Reagan, I believe had the highest approval rating ever--> that's what we need right about now to kickstart this economy into gear, Ronnie & the Reagonomics machine!!! Washington, was considered good too by a clear majority of the people in this new country, but I don't think it got as high as Ronnie's generation & numbers &&& the country was much bigger, then, so he had to have even more people to carry those numbers!. The people begged Wahington to stay in office!. However, he declined & instead chose to retire!. Ronnie was also asked to stay in office by the people, they had offered to help rewrite the law concerning term limitations just for him! He declined!. Believed to be health reasons mostly & family time issues!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

you must realize that to be elected President you have to get a majority of the votes ( note: NO HAIR SPLITTING about the Electoral College, please) so by definition every President was considered good by the majority at the time of election!.!.!.!.

and opinions change!.!.!.!.see the point about Truman!.!.!.today most people think he was a pretty alright guy!.!.when he left office he had a lower opinion rating than our current President!.!.!.!.!.!.!.

I'd say the 4 guys who got their faces carved on a mountain and FDR would be the top 5!.!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

this is absurd!. kennedy was not popular until he was killed!. he wasn't even going to win reelection!. truman had the lowest approval rating of ANY president when he left office!. fdr was only popular because he died in office, the only presidents who left with a high popularity rating was washington and reagan!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think that because of WWII, and everybody being so patriotic at that time, FDR was probably liked (or at least tolerated) by all!.!.!.
George Washington, probably, unless any of the ordinary people back then wanted to remain under English rule!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
