NE was more religous in govt - you can consider it a theocracy; there were governors and things, but religion was very much tied into politics whereas it was NOT in the South - in the South, you can consider politics as it is today - since there was no one religion that everybody followed (there was a variety of Christianity, and other faiths as well) they tried to keep religion/govt separate

also - Roger Williams was banished from MA (by the Puritans) because he suggested that religion/govt should be separateWww@QuestionHome@Com
