However it was just a trick which Hitler fell blindly into under the direction of Rommel and his overly ambitious second hand man Rudolf Hess!. You see the 101 airborne and several others had already landed days before the D-day to secure various points!.The Germans in Operation Barbossa for three years attacked Russia pushing them all the way back to Stalingrad but by 1944 were being beaten back!. At the Yalta Confrence after the Battle of Britian Winston Churchill and Dwight Eisenhower stressed the need for a wastern push into France to liberate Paris and end the war by Christmas!. The invasion was the largest in history and cost almost 30,000 allied soldiers lives but that was a underestimate to the number of dead predicted!. With the eastern front opened up from the newly invented T-34 and Stalin russian tanks and the lend lease act imported Sherman tanks from America the Germans were pushed further and further back into the Rhine land!. The invasion of Normandy freed France from Nazi oppression and stretched the Nazi forces too thin to defend against the final push of the allied soldiers reclaiming territory lost in Operation Overlord!. Martin Bormann the last leader of the Third Reich after Hitler commited suicide wanted to surrender to the Americans and British!.
