The big catch to the Civil War is that troops were called up by state!. So all those around you were from your home state!. If you deserted word would get back home and everyone would know!. That tended to discourage deserting!. However, for those who did, they usually went some place new, changed their names and tried to keep a low profile!. If they got caught while the war was still on, they got shot!. After the war pretty much no one cared as they all wanted it to be over!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
