If so you can clearly say the Brits came to a Rome like status after defeating the Spaniards, when the Spanish naval fleet was basically destroyed by the Brits and weather!. Post this, the world was in the small islands hand, until America became official and WWI and definite post WWII!. But if you want to be literal!.!.!. it never happened!. Unless again you want to point a finger at Charlemagne's try!.Www@QuestionHome@Com The Roman Empire in the West fell on 4th September 476 AD when the last Roman Emperor, Romulus Augustus, was deposed!. The Roman Empire in the East continued in the areas surrounding Greece and Turkey until 1453 when Constantinople was conquered by the Turks!. The British Empire's first overseas territory (outside Ireland) was Newfoundland claimed for England in 1583!. So the latest possible date for the Roman Empire and the earliest date for the British Empire are well over 100 years apart!. With the exceptions of Palestine, Egypt and parts of Persia, most of the British empire extended beyond the Roman border!. India, the Americas, Australia, Southern Africa etc were never part of the Roman empire!.
