there are a bunch of different nationalities in europe that have thier own identity!. Australia was primarily populated as a british penal colony, and grew into a real colony, but still populated primarily by the British, so it has a national identity!. The US has been poulated with all sorts of people, but something about it gets everyone to think of themselves as american first, rather than irish or italian!. Canada is mostly british except for Quebec, which occasionally wants to break away!. Africa has the pleasure of being arbitrarily divided by colonial powers, so different groups must share one government!. that is one reason for all of the civil wars (Rwanda for one) Asia is mixed!. parts of it (like china) are formed of diverse ethnic groups, but the groups have been part of one or another chinese empire for thousands of years!. parts of the population that want to split are also kept by force (tibet) South east asia is divided into tiny countries just like europe!. parts of the middle east were divided by European powers like africa!. other parts of asia simply lack enough people to form countries with a density like europe (some of the "-stans" or the people are fine with sharing a country with other groups!. countries will break up provided two conditions-the people share a common nationality that is sufficiently different from the larger country and the larger country allows them to break off!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well there are major ones like Britain, France, and Spain that had always existed as united!. However, Germany and Itlay and Poland are formed in 1800s after wars!. Most western European nations are formed after the Autria-Hungary Empire broke off after WWI and after USSR broke up during and after the Cold War!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The same reason there are so many states in the USa!.
It is the result of historical development but in the case of Europe it is complicated by different languages and cultures from a time when communities were more isolated and hostile to each other!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
