Question: Regarding the Unification of Germany, is this right!?
I'm in a debate in my Honors World History class and I have to support Liberalism during the time of the Unification of Germany (1848-1871 era)!. For some reason I'm having trouble connecting WWI to this era!.

Is it correct to say:

"The unification of Germany led to Germanization and a strong sense of nationalism!. It is because of the strength of these ideas that when Franz Ferdinand attempted to make change within Austria and Germany, he was shot, starting WWI!."!?

Thank you!Www@QuestionHome@Com

The first part is more or less correct!.!.!. German Unification brought forth much German nationalism, and that nationalism was further heightened during Wilhelm II's reign!.

However, the second part is incorrect!. Remember, Franz Ferdinand has very little to do with Germany and was not shot because of his relationship with Germany!.

Gavrilo Princip, the man who shot FF, was apart of a terrorist group based in Serbia called the Black Hand!. I can't 100% remember, but I think the main reason why Princip targeted FF was because he was under the false impression that FF wanted to annex Serbia for Austria, but in fact, no one was more against imposing Austrian rule over Serbia than FF!. So basically, Princip shot the wrong guy!.!.!.!. oops!.

But what this means is that the assassination of Franz Ferdinand had nearly nothing to do with German nationalism!.

What I'm really wondering is how are you connecting liberalism to WWI!? You may want to rethink your argument!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree with pmos!.
A suggestion: Henry Kissinger analizes the Unification of Germany thoroughly in his book named "Diplomacy"!. If you have enough time find the book and read that section!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

germany was going through a prosess in that era that it was becoming a unified country not a city-state duchy

!.!.!.!.that seems correctWww@QuestionHome@Com
