Question: Who had the greatest impact in stopping the Nazis in WW2 - the British, The Americans or the Russains!?
also, if any of these three allies had been neutralized early in the war would there have been a different outcome!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
The Russians had the greatest impact!. The invasion of Russia (Operation Barbarossa) was the largest and most lethal military operation in human history!. Millions of people and hundreds of divisions on both sides were wiped out!.

By the time D-Day came in 1944, Germany's army had already been mostly destroyed!.

The other Allies contributed to Germany's defeat of course but the Russians have to be given the most credit!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Russia had the greatest impact!.
Britain and the USA had a huge impact also, but the Russians under Stalin would still be fighting the Germans in Vladavostok-the benefit of a dictatorship with a motivated population!.
Britain taken out in 1940 would have meant the Germans might have even gotten to Vladivostok without that second front to worry about, Roosevelt could have stayed out of the war!.
The USA was the world's arsenal and kept everybody going with trucks, ammo, aircraft etc!. With them out of the picture, the Russians would still have won, but it would have taken longer, been bloodier, and the Iron Curtain would been in Wales or Ireland, not Germany!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your question is who had the greatest impact!? - While each answer given is a great point of view, consider this:

Which country had the industrial power to produce munitions, airplanes, tanks, guns, ships, and the agricultural wherewithal to still feed everyone!? Economist say its either guns or butter, but one country had both!.

Which country had the man power to raise a 20 million military personal and fight a two front war!? And mobilize them nearly overnight!?

Which country had the military leadership to match what I asked in #2!?

Not to take away from the other allies, but the answer to these questions was the United States!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Britain, who held thanks to that annoying body of water called the Channel until Hitler turned against his friends the Russians!.
What people forget to say in their paean of the Russian people is that until Hitler invaded Russia the Communists in Europe were ordered by Stalin to either help the Nazis, or if they were in the new born Resistance (which didn't bother Stalin as it meant another way to keep the Nazis occupied) to betray their non-communists Resistance friends to the Nazis!. The goal was to be the only local power left so that when Stalin attacked Germany (that was in the plans) the Communists in the occupied countries would rise, kick the Nazis out and take over!. Even after the invasion of Russia that order to betray the others still stood, still with the goal of taking over once the war was ended!.
Of course this doesn't lessen what the Russians did during the war, but it also gives another perspective!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's obvious that Hitler gambled everything by invading Russia, that attacking Russia and failing to defeat it could only mean that Germany will be defeated!.

When the German invasion of Russia began in June 1941, Germany could potentially defeat Russia and win the war!. Its initial victories were tremendous!. Russian losses in men, equipment, and land, were unbelievably enormous!. But Russia is HUGE, with endless resources, its soldiers are tough, and its winter is terrible for anyone not fully equipped for it, and the German military was definitely NOT equipped for the Russian winter, and knew it!.

But in the first weeks of the invasion the German successes were such that the over-confident Hitler decided that he wants to occupy the rich Ukraine in the South even before taking Moscow, the heart of Russia!. To do so he ordered to stop the advance of army group "Center" to Moscow and to give its two tank armies to army groups "North" and "South"!. This was perhaps Hitler's greatest mistake, and his Generals argued a lot against it, but in vain!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Of the three original allies two were neutralised early in the war – Poland and France were invaded, it was two years (give or take) before the other two you mention officially, militarily, joined the war!.
Of course, trying to answer your question is to fundamentally misunderstand the realistic nature of alliances and the conduct of a world war, for every case you make an opposite case can be made!.

btw Australia and USA were NOT the only combatants against Japan, amongst many others, consider the contribution made by the Provinces of India!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Actually, the one who had the reatest impact in stopping the Nazis was Hitler himself!. The whole idea of attacking Russia and opening up yet ANOTHER front was ill-advised, foolhardy, and ultimately costly!.Furthermore, when Germany had developed a weapon that could win the war, the first operational jet fighter(Me262), Hitler INSISTED on employing it as a "Blitz Bomber"(whatever THAT meant), the extra payload effectively killing its speed, range, and manuverability!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I say Russia mainly because of the millions of bodies they were able to throw in front of the Wehrmacht!. They also were not fighting a war with Japan!. Hitler could have kept the terms of the non-aggression pact signed with Stalin before the war, which would have nutralized the USSR, at least temporarily!. The outcome may have been different with a one-front war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Too Many Variables!.!.!.Bottom line!.!.!. Without the resources of the U!.S!., Germany would have eventually won!. But:

The Russians held the Nazis, but the Nazis would have overun them in a few years if the Brits hadn't kept them busy elsewhere!. The Britts couldn't have held out for long however if the U!.S!. handn't been supplying them with everything from food to hardware and munitions!. The U!.S!. was the only one that had the distance and resources to take the bulk of the fight!. The Atlantic was a good barrier, as he English channel was a good barrier for the Britts!.

Had not Hitler screwed up, the Britts wouldn't have had an army to attack Germany!. They would have all been wiped out on the beach during their evacuation of Europe at the start of the war!.

Had the Nazis been fooled into thinking that the invasion was being lead by George Patton (who the Germans feared and respected)!. They would have been on the beaches of Normandy in stead of having their main forces up where they thought Patton was going to invade!.

Had Hitler not invaded Russia (who had signed a peace treaty with Germany and were as guilty of ivading Poland as much as Germany was)!. All of the German military might may well have destroyed the Britts within a year or two!.

Then remember, The U!.S!. and Australia took the entire weight of the War against Japan while the U!.S!. was also supplying everyone in Europe and takeing the bulk of the fight!. (Yes, "Monty" lead an army, but there were many American divisions in his area of contol!. Patton had only Americans)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Let me answer the outcome question first!. The only difference would have been that Berlin would have won the A Bomb sweepstakes from the Japanese!.

Next: greatest impact!. The Soviets paid the price in blood, and they should get the credit and the glory!. Hundreds of nazi divisions were tied down in the Soviet Union, and the first surrender of a nazi army, the sixth, occured in Stalingrad in 1943!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes!. British Commonwealth Forces Defeated would have finished all resistance in Europe leaving German forces relatively free to concentrate on Russia & america would of sat back and continued suplying Germany with tools & supplies of war!. America joined only after Germany was stoped on the eastern front, & then only because of Pearl Harbour attack by Japan!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

America!. Without America fighting in the Pacific, Japan would have attacked Russia in the east as Hitler intended and Russia would not have been able to move Zukov and his tanks to the West!. England was depleted, could not invade Europe and depended heavily on US bombing to keep Germany down!. The US gave Russia millions of dollars of aid in tanks, airplanes, trucks, and money!. Without a US led invasion of Normandy, Russia could not beat the Germans!. Without America, Russia would have lost within the first year and England would have eventually had to make peace or be invaded!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

if the russians had been neutralized and germany had not bothered with england then america would never have entered - american entered so save the western world but helped the commies because it was easier to fight the germans with the commies fighting them too and rpped up with weapons and cash from the states - so the russians had the biggest impact and took 40 million civilian and military casualties doing so the reds were the first to enter berlin in the endWww@QuestionHome@Com

Hitler threw 80% of all his forces at the Soviets and still lost!.
Had the Japanese attacked Russia from the East in a Pincer attack with Germany, then the Axis powers would have been victorious!.
Britain and U!.S!.A were happy to let the Nazis' and the Bolshevicks slug it out as they had no love for either of them!.
When the Nazis were beaten, Britain and the U!.S!.A launched D-Day to end the war quickly and prevent the Soviets over running all of Europe!.
It's all politics really!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Im an American and I think the Russians really kept them busy so well that the US and Brits were able to advance faster!. If the Nazis were not so busy with the Russians, D- day, and any other invasion probably would have failed!. Id have to go with Russians on this!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

all!
brits kept nazis from capturing entire europe!.!.!.they were the only real hard resistance!.
russians got the advantage of winter and also because the western fronts were heavily engaged with brits
americans, they silently watched the war and when all were consumed they 'really' entered into the war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Th British of course, They were in the war 3 years before the Americans, and the Russians needed help or supplies from Britain, to help them in their advance in to Germany!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think the British had the biggest impact- they declared war straight after the Nazi's invasion on Poland!.

The Americans didn't come until Pearl Harbor!. If they came before, a LOT more lives could have been saved!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The russians of course at first, if germany had invaded russia, it would have been much differentWww@QuestionHome@Com

Russia, their T-34 tanks, weather, and relocation of supplies away from pillaging germans!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

actually 50 countries were fighting against Germany but not at the same time britian and france were the 1st countries to declare war on germany after they found out that hitlers next country to take over was Poland SO I WOULD SAY BRITIAN OR FRANCEWww@QuestionHome@Com
