He wasn't the first to discover the American continents!. He was left stranded on a Jamaican island for over a year!. Not because no one knew he was stranded there, but because he had made so many enemies in the area during his Governorship of Hispanola that people spent that year disrupting his rescue!

His glorious return to Spain saw him immediately shackled and arrested for the atrocities he had committed!. And, reportedly, by the time of his death he was still convinced that all his explorations had taken place in eastern Asia!.

No, he was not the first to discover the New World!. It was actually some Vikings way earlier who had no interest in settling the New World!. There are also some evidence that a Chinese expedition of like a thousand ship reached the New World first!. The Natives are the first for sure crossing the Bering Strait!. But Columbus did map some coasts in the New World!. He deserves the credit for that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
