we colonists thought that the British were basically smothering us in the years between the Revolution and the French and Indian War!. The Brits said we should pay for all of the war costs and we should pay for them to garrison troops!. We said that we had contributed enough and paid enough during the war and we didn't need British troops to protect us, we could do it ourselves!. It wasn't until the British started ignoring us and doing whatever they wanted that the distrust began!.

Ben Franklin testified before Parliment in 1767 saying basically what I have stated aboveWww@QuestionHome@Com

Both!. At first they felt they needed England for protection, but later on they began to distrust England after several new taxes were enacted!. The taxes were said to be payment for defending the colonies but were really because of wars in Europe!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
