slaves were not given an education, they would not need it since they worked in the fields, very rarely a slaves master would teach them at home by themselvesWww@QuestionHome@Com

The best way to keep a people oppressed would be to take away their ability to communicate on a mass scale!. The ability to read and write would have allowed slaves to speak out against their oppressors anonymously and without fear of retribution!. It would have united those who were enslaved and lead to the downfall of the slave owners!. Clearly this happened within time, but it would have been accomplished much faster had the slaves been able to come up with a uniting voice earlier in their oppression!.
Mass media liberates the oppressed, first writing, then radio, television, and now we have internet!. Look at today's outcries for Tibet and Iraq - there's your proof!. That's why the slave owners refused to give their slaves education, to maintain power!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They were not educated like all the others!. They did not have time to learn their alphabet or read a sentence!. They slaved in labour, in the work force, not in nice little offices!. People didnt allow them to have a chance, to be properly educated because otherwise they could take the jobs of the wealthier class!. Besides if they could read and write and do everything that others could do they wouldnt be cheap and there is no point in buying an expensive slave only to treat them like trash!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You know that slavery was more common here in Texas which is the South than the north!.the whites never took the slaves as pure humas they just treated them like dogs and made them slaves!.During that time, the North opposed on slavery and could not make Texas part of the United states because texas was a state of its own!.Alot of slaves died when they tried to escape to the north!.
