My Grandfather was one of those troops!. And like my Father and his Father before him I also joined the Voyska spetsialnogo naznacheniya!. I know the hardships they faced through they're story's and the way they had raised me!. Do I think it was justified though!. Maybe 50 years ago I would say it was justified!. But not now, we live in a different world flourishing with world unity, stable economy, and hopefully the end of conflict in the middle-east!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

What the Russians did is understandable, and understandably human revenge in the war that had no quarter!. What is not excusable is that the atrocities were encouraged, abetted, and sanctioned by official policy in the Army and the Party!.

The Red Army first entered German territory in East Prussia when its troops were encouraged by propaganda and its political cadres to get revenge by raping, looting, plundering, burning, and murdering civilians!.

From there to Berlin's fall, the Reds did their damnedest, and that was considerable!. The worst of atrocities in Berlin occurred after the battle, and involved rear area support troops, which were much more brutal than the combat units!.

By fall, 1945 the Red Army had clamped down on its troops as far as murder and rape were concerned, and the worst was over for the German civilians!. What happened in Berlin and all of Germany after the Allied victory was reparation by the Russians!. They suffered most in the conflict!. It's never justified in any war but it happens in every war!. The Germans did slaughter their way through Russia since 1941 and a lot of sodiers had a rage and hatered that cannot be held back so it was inevitable!. It was a sorry state of affairs when 13 year old gils were getting crucified, raped and shot in front of their fathers!. In my opinion the red army and the Russian regime was every bit as bad as the Nazis altough the allies would have lost without them!. It is a Shame the world could not have supressed Russia before they got nukes!. They could yet prove to be a bigger threat than the Nazis ever where and I do belive they would repeat Berlin given the chance anywhere in the word, especialy the USA!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
