Why did the US join the United Nations after World War 2, but refused to join the League of Nations!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? HELP!!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
The League of Nations was created after World War 1 because it was believed that such an organization would prevent further world wars!. However, since World War 1 was primarily a European war, after the war ended, the United States decided to become an isolationist and stay out of future European affairs to prevent anymore involvement in European wars!.
also, article 10 of the League of Nations covenants demanded that all member nations must protect the territorial and political integrity of other League members!. The article meant that if one nation was engaged in war, all others must become involved!. The United States did not like being forced to protect other countries without permission from our own Congress!. They wanted to control who they would protect!. As a result, article 10 was a significant reason why America rejected the League of Nations!.

Although World War 2 started out as a European war, the attack on Pearl Harbor Hawaii was an attack on American soil!. So with America involved in fighting on two fronts (against the Germans and Japanese), the United States realized how important it was to receive help from other countries!. So President Truman wanted to prevent the isolationism that followed World War 1!. But he did not want another League of Nations because that failed to prevent World War 2!. So America became more involved in creating the United Nations and writing it's rules and regulations!. That is why the United States joined the United Nations!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the USA did not joined the League due to opposition in the U!.S!. Senate, especially influential Republicans Henry Cabot Lodge of Massachusetts and William E!. Borah of Idaho
while The term "United Nations" was decided by Franklin D!. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill, so you may say that the USA was a main player in establishing the UNWww@QuestionHome@Com

the US thought that if they stayed out of European Affairs (the league) then they wont have their problems to deal with!. this is complete bullcrap, which is why when the UN formed they knew they had to join or else it would just fail!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because by then the League of Nations was defunct!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hint: It has to do with the U!.S!. Senate's power to "advise and consent" to treaties!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
