Question: CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT KIND OF SWORDS THeSE ARE!? TEN POINTS FOR FIRST ANSWER!?
About ten years ago, my grandfather went hunting with my uncle out in Texas!. They came across a very old, run shack house that was abandoned!. the house was rotting and it was appearant no one lived there!. Inside up on the wall, they found two swords!. They are silver in color and about two feet long, they look very old!. up at the top where you actually hold the sword, is like a solid dome to protect your hand!. On the actual sword itself, there are some very intricate designs, and right above the dome it says "Gary Ross" and then Wurzburg Germany!. What does this sound like to you!. I am asking on behalf of my grandfather as he is up in age! Thanks for replieS!Www@QuestionHome@Com

For what this is worth, the name Gary is English or Gaelic, and it WAS used, but not often, as a first name before Frank Cooper's agent suggested in 1927 that he change his name to that of her hometown in Indiana!. Ross is Scottish!. The combination of these two names suggests that the swords were manufactured in the twentieth century!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

they sound like antiques to me maybe you can sell them for lots of money!? Or just keep them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would suggest going online and searching out a dealer in your area and bring them for an appraisel!. You can photograph them and do it online also!. You should have them appraised for insurance purposes if they are worth anything!. That's step one!. Never go by what someone answers you on Yahoo questions, you can never tell if the person is being truthful or just being a jerk!.
Enter the name and town and country into the computer also and see what pops up, but I strongly suggest a reputable professional!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There are many detailed picture books of photos and illustrations of weapons!.Try asking your local librarian for help!. You may have to order something up over inter library lending!.also, and this works as I have used it,get over to the bigger chain book stores like Barnes&Noble and check out their History dept as well as the used book section!.My son and I do military reenactment and I'm telling you there is allot of info out there!. Try faxing photos to museums too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I looked up the web, and it doesn't say anything about the Gary Ross trademark!. I would say that the name is the name of a seller, not the manufacturer!. From what I understand, during the Confederation, and the Civil War, gentlemen became officers, and had to supply their own uniforms, right down to munitions, and swords!. Only officers carried swords, and it probably was a calvary officer at that!. So you probably have a Civil War cutlass or officer sword!.

I would say that you ought to get the sword appraised!. After all, it would put to rest any speculation and if you have a treasure, you would know it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Pics of the swords would be cool, if you could make and edit your questions!.

I think you need to establish whether, in fact, your grandfather owns the swords!. I sincerely doubt it!. (I probably sound like I'm trying to be a jerk, but I'm not!.) If the swords are valuable, you should consult a lawyer!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
