The name was chosen from entries in a name-the-park contest!. The winner picked the name after Candlestick Point, the point of land which juts into San Francisco Bay!. The point itself got it's name from the Long-billed curlew, or "candlestick bird" which was once common to the area!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
