Question: What was the largest Empire that ever existed!? I've heard many make this claim for different empires in the pa
A recent trailer for the movie "Mongol" made this claim about that particular Empire!. I also have heard it atributed to the Greek (Alexander), the British, the Persian and the Roman Empires
Which was the largest!? And how do you define largest!? (landmass, wealth, population, percentage of known world conquered!?)

The Roman Empire has been quoted as being the Greatest Empire, so has the Mongol Empire, The Greek Empire (alexanders anyway), the Persian and the British!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

My source says that the Mongolians had 29 million km2 and 100 million people under their power and the Britons 37 million km2 with over 500 million living there!.

by all of the criteria you list, the U!.S!. empire from 1945 to 1950 was the largest and wealthiest!. we ran the entire western and asian world (except China & India)!. all were dependent upon the US for food and commerce!. European and Asian client states weren't really allowed to resume their indedendent life until the US had rebuilt them and installed 'democratic' i!.e!. allied to U!.S!., governments!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

first of all, the first answer given by Chuck is wrong, because US was not an empire but was a country!.
And according to my knowledge Mongols had the largest empire!. Their empire was from China to Western Europe!. Thats the info i know!.

The mongol empire, but i doubt it was a coherent entity!. Looks to me like it wasnt so much an empire as a list of conquests!. Same goes for alexander's empire!.
