Texas was where many Army Air Force (the USAF was not created until 1947) pilots and airmen were trained!.
Texas also produced, and refined a great deal of crude oil during the war years!.
Both contributions towards the war effort were substantial!.

Many German POW's were sent to Texas because there was a German population in Texas and it was far enough away from industrial areas of the NE!. The German-Texans spoke German and were used as interpreters amoung other things!.

Other contributions include pilot training bases like Ellington Field in Houston, and many industrail and agricultural products!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
