Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Small nation with a relatively large population; natural resources – coal, iron, wool; stable political situation; advances in agricultural automation and subsequent movement of cheap labour to cities; inspired developments in steam power, use of iron and improvements in textile production!. There are some who also claim the Protestant work ethic contributed with entreprenurial excess!.

btw Britain not just England, Wales exported coal and slate to the world, Scottish inventors were as active as any other!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
