I was thinking Along the same lines of CanProf!. Henry the navigator was the first man to establish a school of navigation!. He brought in the best mapmakers, astrologers, explorers, ship makers and so on, to train his young men!. His school is what helped to bring about and greatly aid the age of exploration!.

Ironically, he never actually went on a voyage himself although he helped to sponsor dozens and maybe even hundreds of them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
