Position:Home>History> What are some myths about World War II?Question: What are some myths about World War II!? I need something simple, because we haven't started the WWII unit, we just need to research two myths and say whether they are true or false!.
Most people are doing it on things like "Hitler was on drugs" or whatever, but I don't want mine to be THAT easy!. I was thinking about doing "The US knew about Pearl Harbor and didn't stop them", but I haven't found a website that tells me it's either 100% true or 100% false!. Japan fired the first shots against the US at Pearl Harbor!. In truth we actually fired the first shots but no one back in Pearl paid them any attention until after the battle!. USS Ward, a destroyer, fired on and sank a Japanese mini sub trying to enter the harbor before the first wave of Japanese planes arrived!. Another myth would be the Allies once used a dead body to mislead Germany!. Unlike the above one of Japan firing the first shots, this one is true!. It was called Operation Mincemeat!. The British took a a dead man, dressed him up as a Royal Marine, and dumped him off a sub so as to simulate the idea he'd died in a plane crash!. On the body were plans for an invasion of Greece, which was actually a misdirection from the planned Sicily Invasion!. Hitler feared a landing in the Balkans, which is where Greece is, and believed the Greek invasion to be real so he rushed troops who could have been used in Sicily there, making the actual invasion a bit easier!.Www@QuestionHome@Com You want Snopes!.
