There were two revolutions in 1917 during World War I!. Russia was taking a tremendous beating in the war!. Millions had died at the front!.The Czar and his government was unpopular with the people!. In February occured the first revolution!. The Czar ordered the Duma(the parliament) to disssolve itself!. But it ignored his command and set up a provisional or temporary government!. Czar Nicholas II abdicated in March!. The new government under Alexander Kerensky continued some of the same policies as the former Czarist government had!. Worse of all it continued the war in spite of Russia's losses!. In October ocurred the second revolution which brought the Bolsheviks to power!. They were Communists under the leadership of Lenin!. His party had organization!. His first action when coming to power was to have Russia withdraw from the war!. The turning point had come when workers, soldiers, and sailors led by the Bolsheviks stormed the Winter Palace, a former royal residence, on November 7 (October 25th in the old Russian calendar)!. But Civil War ocurred from 1918 to 1920 between the Communists and the anti-Communists over control of Russia!. After the Communists won they established the "Union of Soviet Socialist Republics" in December 1922!.

I think about 1921 or 1922!. Years ago I did an essay for History 107 (Europe)!. Although the revolutions in Russia took place in 1917 and into 1918, effective control of the USSR as we came to know it took its final form in about 1922 with complete control by the Red Army, who had been relieved of WW1 in 1917!. 1919-1922 marked the transition from LeninWww@QuestionHome@Com
