Well you could start with some pre-war stuff, like pics of him on his ship he was assigned to. Then you could go with th eoutbreak of the war, starting with Pearl (That is how you could tie it in). He could have served on the Arizona, Utah, Nevada, West Virginia, Tennessee, Shaw, etc. Then because of the extensive damage to his vessel, he was transferred to another. Say the Enterprise. That would take you to the Battle of Midway. You kinda of get the idea. Here are the other major battles of the USN during WWII:

Coral Sea--May 1942
Midway-June 1942
Guadalcanal
Battle of Savo Island
Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands
Battle of Cape Esperance
Naval Battle of Guadalcanal.
Battle of Leyte Gulf
Okinawa
Iwo Jima
Solomons campaign
Battle of the Philippine Sea
Blockade of the Home ISlands by our sub fleet

and so on. All you have to do is google WWII naval battles or some kind of combo about it. Hope this helps you!

no

rent "pearl Harbor" with ben affleck and kate beckinsale, if you can sit through it.

go to http://www.historyplace.com/unitedstates...

or http://www.ww2pacific.com/

There's the Battle of Leyte Gulf, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, those three being the most famous.

Please don't take offense - but the Navy has Sailors.
If you want to include Pearl - I like the suggestion that your Sailor survives the attack - is assigned to another ship and "Island Hops."
Now - these were the Marines. So I think you need to do a little research on the basics before you set out on your project.
Good luck!

P.S. U.S.S.The Sulllivans is docked in Buffalo. It was used in the filming of the movie re: the U.S.S.Mason - the first Navy ship on which served ONLY African Americans. It shows up on Sundance Channel or the like from time to time. Well worth learning about. Perhaps you could use it in your project? The men of the ship were awarded a unit citation for successfully escorting a critical convoy across the Atlantic. They actually received it in 2003 - I think - about 50 years after it was recommended. Go figure!!

Try to get to a library with issues of "Life" Magazine from the 1940s. You will find all sorts of World War II pictures in them. Check out the issues from December, 1941 and the issues from 1943, 1944, and 1945. You will find all sorts of pictures of naval battles in the Pacific, which you should be able to photocopy for your project.

I wonder if you know about the fighting Sullivan Brothers from Iowa. I could tell you about them, but it would benefit you more to Google the brothers ( there were 5 ) and peek into the legacy they leave. could you write a narrative ( & include your feelings about what happened to the family) about them? You would have the most unique story to tell. Not alot of folks know about them anymore. Also imclude how the happenings that the family expierienced effects the way todays military assigns dutiies to family members.
