The forest you are looking for is the Ardennes - its the same place where the Battle of the Bulge took place, and it was considered by the Allies as being too rough to attack through.
The Ardennes is in Belgium and Luxembourg, and by attacking through it, the Germans were able to outflank the main defensive lines of the French (The Maginot Line), which gave them an advantage.

The Ardennes forest.

Yes it was through the Ardennes forest, around the Maginot line in June 1940.

Correct it was the Ardennes forest

The Ardennes, or Hurtgen, Forest.
They simply "avoided" the Maginot Line by going around it. Then their tanks blasted through it.
