Position:Home>History> Why did the 'Free-Soil Party' oppose popular sovereignty? I've done

Question:I've done my homework on this question, I've done internet searches, and looked in the history books, but i don't understand. According to my research the members of the free soil party opposed popular sovereignty because they felt that the slaves would become to powerful, but (and yes, this is my nightly schoolwork) my options are MC, and say
1-they believed that the northern farmes would be hurt.
2-they were afraid that it would allow southerners to bring their slaves into new lands.
3-they were afraid that it would benefit the whigs.
4- it violated the missouri compromise.

Thanks so much.

The Free-Soilers were not strongly opposed to slavery in the southern states, but they were opposed to importing it to new territories that would become future states. I would choose option 2.
