Position:Home>History> Why didn`t return the Allies the trophy art they stole in Germany at the end and

Question:Hello,

the german soldiers stole a lot in order mostly of Hermann G?ring. But all was given back to the right owners if they could find one after world war 2. And they still give back.

Why didn`t do the same Americans, Russians and everybody else who stole arts of any kind from german museums and german citizens?

Is it because they were the winners and the winners are always right? If so, isn`t it immoral? Or does it make them neither better than the nazis?

The Russians and Americans gave some things back to Germany after WWII, but nothing compared to what they still keep

Unfortunately a lot of people have the idea that to the victor belongs the spoils. But you are correct. It is stolen property and should be returned. The Jews have made a great effort in recent years to repossess art, money, and anything else lost during the war.If they can have their possessions returned, then Germany which has reformed itself ought to see its possessions returned. The German government is cowardly not to take up this cause.

Return of values is the beginning of repartition of art collections of all world. Antique marble in the British museum - they after all have been broken simply out from Parthenon and taken out to England. And huge collections of the African art in museums of the USA? In the Louvre - the Italian collections grasped by Napoleon.

The german soldiers looted every country they invaded and it was not always for the benefit of Goering.
They made no effort to return anything

In the first place, about 80% of the "loot" has never been found, just recently they tried look for loot in a spot that one remaining officer was with, in the Austria Alps, all the information was correct and the findings of artifacts like buttons etc, but, there were to many obsticles including booby traps and gas traps to go any further.
This and other proven stories of tons of gold, paintings from the great artists, other artifacts will maybe never be found. I'm sure many are in private collections, they turn up every once in awhile.

As for anything of value taken by various world goverments from germany, its called war reperations, anything of value is subject to seizure to pay for the expense of the war. Also massive amounts of art and such were liberated from the nazi and held to be returned to its rightful owner, however often those people cant be found or are unknown or dead.Theres still tons of stuff held pending a legal claim being filed, tho switzerland in the one with the largest horde of Nazi era valuables Trillions of dollars in gold and art treasures are held there in numbered accounts and "deposit boxes" all waiting the person with the correct legal ID numbers to claim them, strangely a vast number of depositors from the nazi areas and eastern europe have never came for their items so they remain the assets of the varous banks. the items stolen by independant soldiers and such have when ever possible been returned ,however many ,like the hess jewels were destroyed by the thieves.the US did everything it could to prevent stealing and to return stolen items of value to the rightful owners whenever possible, however it has often proven impossible to do.

Because the allies were crooks!
