I'll assume, unlike the previous poster, you mean in China.

Mao of course served during the revolution of 1911, but that really is only the start of connections, since most of the major figures in China leading up to the Communist take over were active in the 1911 revolution or became active in its wake.

If I was writing the paper, I'd put the focus on the contrasts between the aftermaths and draw some parallels to the Russian February vs. October Revolutions. That is one was about ending the previous dynasty, while the other was about establishing a new dynasty (Emperor Mao).

I'd say one of the main contrasts would be the behavior of foreign powers.

A second would be the actions to consolidate power taken by the Reds in comparison to the infighting of the National Assembly and between the KMT and Communists in the post-1911 period.

Make sure to drag in the intellectuals of post 1911 period, your professor will appreciate it. Also be sure to mention the old standby about how the first duty of the "emperor" is to defend the country against the foreign barbarians, if your prof hasn't made this point in class, he or she should have and if they haven't, then they'll think you're insightful or at least know your four books.

There are no possible comparison between a --global or not-- war and a revolution, except possibly the number of deaths.
