Position:Home>History> Where's the guilt in slavery, wasn't slavery a world wide practice?

Question:The discovery of the new world promted the whiteman to buy slaves from arabs and supreme african tribes. Before the discovery, slavery was already established in central and south america. Stupid white people seems to forget that thousands of whites died in the civil war to end slavery that the slaves themselves practiced before they were defeated by a stronger tribe like the akuwamu. Sinces abraham lincon is white wouldn't that make him racist and that he referred to a female slave as equal in being to him but not in his abilities, as he is well educated. Doesn't slavery still exist in africa, under africans? Liberia was a colony of freed slave, yet rival tribes used slaves to mine diamonds.
If the white man did not colonized the americas. The Americas will still be a eutophia for its indegenous people. Accomplishment and knowledge gained from the whiteman by blacks may not exist. Without Wernher Von Braun, there would not have been a blackman in space. Independently?...

Millions of Africans were transported to America and the West Indies by Americans and by Europeans. The fact that slavery already existed in Africa does not justify the slave trade to the colonies. Slaves were often subject to cruel and degrading treatment.

I do not think there is any point in modern people feeling guilty about slavery, since we did not have anything to do with it, it was our ancestors, and you can't go around forever feeling guilty about something your ancestors did. But there is no point in denying that it is one of the more disgraceful episodes in our history, and that it is something that is not to the credit of our forefathers. It is an undeniable fact that Africans participated in the slave trade too, but that doesn't make it all right that it happened. We should not have been buying people as slaves, no matter who was doing the selling.

It was wrong. It was something that should not have happened, but since it did happen, we have to deal with it and move on.

And it is certainly not true that Greek and roman slaves were better treated than medieval serfs. The treatment of slaves in the classical world was often extremely brutal. medieval serfs had a degree of independence and control over their own lives, they were not slaves.

As for whether the Americans were right to use Nazis to develop their space programme, that is another issue that is debatable.

Since biblical days and before slavery has always been here.

Everything according to the eyes of the viewer. And it is true slavery started way before Christopher Columbus. Babylonians, Egyptians, ancient biblical Hebrews, Greeks and Romans used slavery. Often these slaves were former prisoners of wars, pardoned and made to work. As a matter of fact, those slaves were a little better treated than the later medieval selfs, African slaves brought by Spaniards and English to America, and XIX industrials workers. Ironically.
