The Vietnamese are a sturdy, bandy-legged bunch with an 800 year history of suicidal resistance to foreign domination.

Their history of "humbling" great powers is a universal testament to the determination of man to be free, as well as a specific testament to the unique endurance, not to mention downright ornery cussedness, of the Vietnamese people themselves.

Edit to Andrew: My MA in History trumps your BA, if we're having a credential-measuring contest (Goggle "Argument from Authority" for the reason not to do that anymore).

And everything you posted is revisionist nonsense. Congrats on still adhering to the "Domino Theory", though. It's unusual to meet somebody still living in the 1950's

LOL

It's not a matter of righteousness. Vietnam won the war because they were i home territory and they were more determined because they belived that they were basically fighting for survival, for dear life itself. In this sense, at least, they hold the moral higher ground.

i dont think so if you look at the stats on that one.

The Vietnam war concluded in April 1975 with the defeat and dissolution of South Vietnam. For the United States, the war ended with the withdrawal of American troops and failure of its foreign policy in Vietnam.
The US can easily be damned because it intervened in another country but not as a powerful friend but like a demon. This is where the US loses all claims of righteousness. The Vietnamese, after all did not go to another country and start a war.

some blame politicians and rallyists as cause why America was not ALLOWED to win the war. its plain pathetic.

if they think its bad that thousands or even millions of americans were rallying against their govt not to continue the war, how would they describe the vietnamese side having millions of their people dying during the war? and still the vietnamese kept fighting.

the US plainly threw everything at the vietnamese except nuclear weapons, and the vietnamese side kept on fighting.

if this was a boxing match, youd say US had more punches connecting but couldnt knock out the enemy and viets kept coming. the US finally didnt answer the bell and just stopped fighting. who do you think won?

Did america won viatnam war? should read: Did America Win the Vietnam war? and the answer is no.

the united states 'contained communism' from spreading all over asia such heavy losses were inflicted on communist forces that sponsoring nations such as china and the former ussr -( russia today ) held back from aiding another communist party or uprising from then on - if the us had not fought there and given a good fighting retreat and outstanding action of rear echelons ( rear guard action ) if they had not have gone there - the communists would have swept into the phillipines after and all over asia eventually

I am in such great fear for the coming generations of this world. "did america won viatnam war?" Spelling, grammar, sentence structure, capitalization.

Sigh, I fear our future is doomed.

1. Vietnam needed support (troops/weapons) from Red China and the USSR during the war to kick the Americans out. If Vietnam didn't get support from its commie buddies at that time, there wouldn't be tales of AK-47s still firing when M-16s were jamming.

2. The Chinese army that went to war with Vietnam was very badly equipped. (Only officers had rifles?!) But anyway, China was still able to do a LOT of damage to Northern Vietnam.
