Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: HM Queen Elizabeth II is the daughter of HM King George VI and acceded to the throne at his death. George VI became King when his brother, Edward VIII abdicated the crown as a result of his affair with the American divorcee Wallis Simpson. He was given the title of Duke of Windsor. Queen Elzabeth is married to the Duke of Edinburgh, Philip of Mountbatten (orig. Battenberg) who was born in Corfu, Greece into the Royal Family of Greece.

She inherited the throne from her father.

Edit : Sorry Uwil, after Edward abdicated in 1936 it was his brother who became King as George VI, Elizabeth II was George VI's daughter and inherited from him in 1952.

When George VI died from lung cancer in 1952, his widow Elizabeth, who had not only lost her husband but also her job, after a brief period of deep mourning, took the unique title of 'Queen Mother' and spent the rest of her life aiding and assisting her daughter, the new Queen Elizabeth II. She also revelled in the role of grandmother, practically bringing up Charles and Anne when duty called their parents away.

Her father did not abdicate. Her uncle abdicated and so her father became king. When he died, she became the queen.

Elizabeth II has been the United Kingdom's reigning monarch since 1952. She was proclaimed queen on 6 February 1952 following the death of her father, George VI; she was formally crowned the next year, on 2 June 1953. Her husband, Prince Philip, comes from the royal family of Greece and was created Duke of Edinburgh prior to their wedding on 20 November 1947.

Her father came to the throne when his brother, King Edward, abdicated because of the scandal with Wallis Simpson.

Their family name was changed during World War I because it sounded too German. The name was changed from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor.

Was she married to an alley? What? LIke a dark alley, a bowling alley?
Elizabeth II was never intended to be queen. Her father was the Duke of York, second in line to the throne after George V. HIs older brother Edward was the Prince of Wales, but he was the one who wanted to marry Wallis Simpson and abdicated the throne in order to marry her. (He was Edward VIII). So, Elizabeth's father became George VI, and as the older daughter with no sons, Elizabeth became queen upon the death of her father.

Her father was King George VI of the Windsor family. He had no sons, just Elizabeth and her younger sister, Margaret, so when he died, Elizabeth became Queen.
