On the verge of surrender by the German Army Empress Elizabith of Russia died and her nephew Peter III took over and being pro-german withdrew his troops ending the war for Russia's part without any gain despite the fact Germany's surrender wou.ld've also ended this part of the war.

Why would Peter III withdraw troops when clearly the Russians were gonna capture Berlin and force Germany's surrende rthus expanding Russian land. Peace could've come either way and in his way he forgoys tons of land.

Though of the question from reading bout Hitler looking to the MATHOB for inspiration as Berlin was being invaded by the Allied forcesand the end of the Nazi empire was clear as a result of FDRs death 3wks before Germany's surrender

I was never fond of Imperial Rulers in Russia. I support the Bolsheviks, because we communists did not make such a mistake like Peter the III did. When the USSR started pushing the Nazis back, we did not step to hesitate and think about retreating. We pushed into Berlin, and I'm sure you know the rest.

It is true the Nazis and Soviets trained together before WW2 started. We signed a treaty with Germany for several reasons.

#1. We believed the other Allied countries were not supporting or not going to support much if we were too fight the Nazis.
#2. We wanted to gain territory so we decided that gaining Eastern Poland would benefit us.
#3. We believed the Nazis and Polish resistance would kill each other which suited us just fine.

Of Course Hitler initiated Operation Barbarossa in which he made the same mistake as Napoleon. The Nazis, of course, were stronger and better equipped then the Soviets were, but the scorched earth tactic and the cold Russian winter proved effective once again.

It was foolish for Japan to attack Pearl Harbor. Had they attacked Russia instead, WW2 would have ended quicker for the benefit of the Axis.

Peter III idolized Frederick the Great of Prussia, and did not want to fight him. Catherine the Great took the throne from him, but was he the biggest idiot in history? Hard to say - there were so many.
