The Reformation was important because it led to schism in the church. many countries abandoned the Catholic church and became Protestant. Many of the German states became Protestant, though some remained Catholic (southern Germany is still largely Catholic today). In response to the Reformation, the Catholic church launched the Counter-Reformation, which made many reforms to the Catholic religion.

In some countries, the Reformation was more welcome than in others. In england, henry VIII originally broke with the Catholic Church because he wanted to be able to divorce his wife Catherine of Aragon and marry Anne boleyn. He destroyed the monasteries and sezied their wealth, but he never thought of himself as a Protestant, and continued to persecute Protestants during his reign. His son Edward VI was a Protestand, and imposed the english prayer book on english churches.

There were uprisings against both the dissolution of the monasteries and the english prayer book, but they were savagely repressed. The majority of th eenglish population did not want the reformation, it was imposed on them from above.

Sir Thomas More opposed Henry's break with the Pope, and so he was executed.

Why don't you google or wikipedia the Protestant Reformation when you textbook fails you???

Martin Luther was one of many who made complants against the church. I think thomas moore was one of the others ( friend of henry the 8th and later excuted by henry.) The reformation was important because basically people got tired of the corrputions of the church and they wanted a change.
