with great thought and extremely good engineering. when we think of 'ancient' anything, we think of them and those times as backward and without use of technology (tools). oh how wrong we are. the ancient egyptians were as much into tech as any other AND they were into the stars, constellations, all things real (and some unreal). in other words, they were educated people who served the pharaohs in the most useful ways possible. when it came to building the pyramids, the engineers knew what the pharaohs wanted. if not, they consulted them, of course. also, the pyramids simulated mountains, had selected projected areas that reached to certain starts and constellations; they had a purpose. it was not all fanciful, though. the building of the pyramids served another rather important issue. everyone was busy during harvest and planting, etc., but when all that was over, you had idle time. idle time, then, was just as bad as today, so the pharaoh thought this one out (or his handlers did) and came up with the idea of a buildings-work-progress. it was proved during depression of the 1930s. keep people working, even if the govt needs to supply the work. a lot of good things were built then so why not back 3-5 thousand years ago. what? good ideas only occur once? very narrow minded. anyway, i hope this explains the how, why, when, where, etc. nice to know the answers to history's questions were up-close-and-personal ... all along!

Alot of time and alot of slaves.

By placing a stake in the ground at one corner then with another measure out the side of the base of the pyramid and align the two stakes to the constellation or star at a set time of the year.
