Medeival France would be tolerable as long as it's not the 14th century. The time of Charlemagne would be ok.

Pleistocene era , you sound smart so I'm guessing the later and then I'm going to look it up

There was good bacon in France. Back in the pleistocene, you'd have to smoke your own.
