Position:Home>History> WWII....help please??

Question:Okay, so for my AP Euro class, I need to write a thesis for this DBQ. Now, I'm not really asking you to do my homework for me, I have gone through all the documents and am going to do this on my own.
However, for some reason I just cant wrap my mind around the question, so if you could explain it to me in different, *easier* terms, that would be great.

Question:
What were the key concepts of the authoritarian governments and rulers and why were they so appealing in the interwar years (1919-1939)?

So, from this I gather that the interwar years are the years between WWI and WWII, and that there is some government that people are looking towards.

If you could explain/tell me what an authoritarian government would be and give an example and/or reword the question for me that would be great!!

*nice answers, and thanks in advance!*

An authoritarian government is very controlling of it's population. With a few people making the decisions with very few obstacles. A dictatorship or a monarchy would be authoritarian. A democratically elected government is usually not authoritarian, but and elected government can become authoritarian. But then they usually can't be voted out of office any more.

The Progressives(fascists) were very influential... in large part because of the Depression, which was world wide... many seem to fall for the false impression that the Nazis and the fascists were making things work and that it should be done every where... many in England and The US and elsewhere fell for the lie.... Hillery and the obomination are fans of the Progressives... and I have my suspicions about Mccain... basicaly.... the state should dictate all things... including morality and the inforcment of it...
