Position:Home>History> Battle of thermopylae vs. 300?

Question:I know 300 is said to be really close to the truth and " unholleywood" but what are some key diffrences...I can only think of , were the guy runs back to Sparta and tells the people about the battle...that never happened, the man who ran back was from the battle of marathon and he ran to Athens shouted "NIKE" Greek for victory and died...also Leonidas never had that stand off with Xerxes and actually he died in battle and his head was put onto a spear and stuck in the battlefield.....anymore differences??

300 has almost nothing to do with history. It was based on a comic book, not the actual historical accounts.

First of all, who said that the movie 300 is anywhere near to the truth? Because I think you should brush up on your history.
The Spartans were famous for their phalanx formation of battle. That is the reason why the Spartans had their reputation for powerful fighting. But they are never seen doing it in the movie.
Second, Leonidas was one of two Kings of Sparta. The Spartans were the only Greek City state to have two Kings.
Three, the way that they talk about the Athenians is laughable. The Athenians had just kicked the asses of the Persians in the battle of Marathon a couple of years earlier.
There are so many more man, seriously.
