Question:The purpose of the tea act was to tax the Americans of course. The brits were there for a free ride and gettingf a ton of tax $$. This was also to help make the british richer, and keep the americans in check. With the tax act then the Americans as a whole couldn't get that rich so they couldn't rebel as easily.
