Position:Home>History> I own a Ronson "Crown" table lighter. How do you change the wick in it

Question:Turn the lighter upside down and remove the fill hole cap.

Using a crochet hook pull all the cotten out of the lighter.

Pull the remains of the used wick out of the lighter.

Purchase a wick kit that has a wire attached to the wick.

Fish the wire through the "fill hole" on the bottom of the lighter up through the wick hole in the lighter.

Pull the wick through until it is about 1/8 to 1/4 inch out of the hole.

Holding the wire and wick in place, repack the cotten you have pulled out of the lighter.

Once it's packed well with cotten, fill with fluid, replace the bottom fill cap and light!

Actually very simple.

Usually, you have to fish out all the cotton, insert a wick with a guide wire through the lighter, then carefully repack the cotton, winding the wick back and forth through the cotton inside the lighter. This insures that the wick can find the fluid even if it's concentrated on one side or the bottom. If the wick just goes straight through to the bottom, the lighter will light a few times, then quit for a while until the fluid soaks back into the wick.
