Position:Home>History> How did Islam spread throughout Africa?

Question:The previous answers are mostly wrong to be honest with you. They're just angry bigots.

Islam spread through Africa because of trade. Arab merchants from North Africa and other places would go to African nations along the East African coast and the Upper Niger River area to trade with African kingdoms. In order to maintain this profitable relationship, African rulers converted PEACEFULLY to Islam. The only time Islam was spread by the sword was during the Fulani crusades in the 19th centuries.

(By the way, i'm not Muslim)

Through jihad - religious war. Basically, conquering people and forcing them to convert to Islam.

By the sword and the flame.

As always. By the sword.

Originally, through military conquest in the 7th and 8th centuries, though Islam continues to spread southward in Africa through peaceful means today.

The Moors came in around 700AD and conquered Northern Africa forcing Islam upon them. These are the same people who conquered the Iberian Peninsula too

Most Islamic thought was carried through Africa by Arabic and Muslim traders. They would settle in an area, marry local women, and teach their children to be Muslim. They would send Imam (scholars) to debate with local rulers, and try to convert them by use of well thought out argument.
