Position:Home>History> Do you believe in UFO's? Life on other planets?

Question:Ok so here's a goofy question(s):

Do you believe in UFO's (in the context that they are "extra-terrestrial visitors", not military aircraft or anything of that nature). Why or why not?

And:

Do you believe in intelligent life on other planets (existing in our current time)? Why or why not?

And:

Do you think it's worth looking for?

I've done a fair amount of research on the subject, but I guess I'm curious what others think. I realize this is under history, but that's the subject I'm qualified to teach so I'm curious what other professionals and/or history/social science buffs think.

Drake's Equation, even using the most conservative estimates, puts the possibility of e.t. life as a very very large number. The fact that we have not had 'first contact' does not mean the extra-terrestial biological entities are not out there.

I can believe that it is not in the best interests of the government to acknowledge 'first contact' if it has already happened.

As you may recall, Orsen Welles radio broadcast about a fake Mars invasion caused widespread panic in certain areas of the East coast. Can you imagine the mass hysteria if 'first contact' was real. Not only would it cause massive world view changes, the economy would become unstable

Those at the top of the heap in wealth and power in every country want to maintain the status quo. UFO's pose an immediate threat to the social and economic fabric of life, whether in a totalitarian state or one that's allegedly democratic.

The secrecy stems from a pervasive and fundamental element of life in our world: that those who are at the top of the heap will always take whatever steps necessary to maintain the status quo.

Think about what makes the basis of our economic life on this planet....oil. Energy for our cars employs millions, millions rely on it for transportation, the car industry and all the supporting infrastructure in EVERY country. A new, cheaper and more efficient energy source that could be adapted from alien technology would cause an immediate collapse of the world's economies....at least if it was available overnite.

There is a nice anecdote in which President Ronald Reagan, after watching a preview of ET The Extraterrestrial with a group including the movie's director, Steven Speilberg, turned to the director and said: "You know, there aren’t six people in this room who know how true this really is." This might be apocryphal, the story continues that Spielberg could not question the president further after these statements because the press then approached.

there is life on other planets and they have proved it they have found moulds and all sorts of things on planets and you have to expect there is life forms but how or what they look liek could not be like us or could be just not sure.

yes but i believe most people that claim to see them are lying... my friend in the fifth grade used to claim he saw a UFO with his binoculors and that tere was a tag on the craft that said "made in China" -_-

they are here most likely because they want to study us much like how those people in star trek study other worlds

I have been reading SF for years. I know that there is life out in the universe somewhere but I don't think we have had any ET visitors.

Star distances are just too far! Yes I think it is worth looking for. But until we spend our money on space travel rather than blowing up parts of our own planet, we will never find any.

on a bright sunny sunday aftenoon, i was 11-12, my brother and grandfather say 7 ufo's crossing our farm in ky. this was the same day that ufo's were spoted over washington, dc. circa 1950's. they were close enough that they threw shadows upon the earth. bright silvery objects that were noiseless as they passed by.
so, yes i think there are other civilizations out there, and some have visited us, some ufo's seen could just be probes like we send today to mars. i think they have visited earth many times, proberly they were here when prehistoric animals roamed the earth, befor man even, what a straange sight that must of been, we may even be of 'them'.
if its gets investigated, and it has in our twisted govenment way, you would never learn the truth, our government guars the truth with a bodyguard of lies.

Oh I believe in UFOs but I do not believe they are extraterristrial spacecraft. They are aircraft from our own world that either can not be immediately identified at first glance or, as is typically more often the case, top secret military prototypes.

The odds are stacked against extra-terrestrial visitors ever having visited us.

I think intelligent life elsewhere is likely given the unimaginably large number of stars (and possible planets) in the universe.

But the question is how would these aliens find us? Our radio waves have traveled a very small distance (110 light years). And, as radio waves expand outward, the strength of signal deteriorates. Even if an intelligent civilization existed within this short distance, they would have to be listening, and they would have to have a radio receiver larger than our planet.

Then, if a civilization were to hear us, pinpoint where we are, how could they get here?

Insofar as we understand the universe, travel faster than the speed of light is impossible.

It's worth keeping an ear to the sky for any near neighbors. But belief that we one day meet them in person is akin to a religious faith, a hope beyond the universe as science explains it.

UFOs - Yes - there are unidentified things seen all the time, and captured on film

Intelligent life - No. Spiritual life - no doubt.

Worth looking for? - No. I accept what God has laid out for us as salvation through His one and only Son, Jesus Christ. Concern over other things that do not affect my salvation are not that pressing to me. What is pressing to me in a practical sense is why we spend so much on space exploration, when we need to harness knowledge of the sea to protect and feed our planet. 70% of our planet is ocean, and we're clueless about it.

Does it matter that our satellite defense system has about 1/2 of its armament pointed towards outer space, the thousands of videos on line, the 2005 UFO scare in Washington, pictures, airline pilots, movie videos, police reports, our own astronauts, NASA's own videos, implants taken out of people who have made testimonies as to being abducted, the "Disclosure Project" where high military brass & scientists have done nothing for their careers, just to tell the truth, Travis Walton and the 6 other guys he was with all passed the lie detector tests, all the blacked out pages of evidence in project Blue Book, the Washington post articles in the 50's "Saucers out ran our jets", paintings like the Madonna and many others, thousands of year old cave paintings of UFOs with even aliens wearing breathing equipment.

Our DNA has junk DNA in it ... huh? How would that happen? Did God or evolution mess up? How come we only have 46 chromosomes (our 2nd & 3rd are bonded together). How did that happen when most other animals have 48?

Explain the pyramids when they didn't have logs but just palm trees that wouldn't hold up to one block, the Inca stones, the Nazca Lines in Peru. Floating candles, hubcaps, swamp gas? Okay, I agree, there is fake stuff out there.

I've been abducted, lost time, my parents couldn't even talk about it or remember ... it was erased from their memory completely. Try living & coping with something like that.

But to most our government or news shows wouldn't lie, and we are the only beings in all this universe & beyond cause God said so.

It's probably just the devil ... red cape, pitchfork, horns and a tail and most non-believers would be more likely to believe that.

If ya must know ... there's more proof of UFOs & aliens than there is of any God. Got any pictures, or videos of him ... ever? Is the bible proof of God? Not when the bible says the "earth doesn't move ... but rests on pillars" ... huh ... tell me which is the most loony theory.

Overwhelming huh? Well, it is for me ... hope this helps ...

Are you like 9 yrs old? Life has to exist on other planets...DO YOU COMPREHEND THE SIZE OF THE UNIVERSE........IF ONE LITTLE GRAIN OF SAND WAS EARTH, THEN TAKE EARTH AND MULTIPLY IT BY A THOUSAND AND NOW YOU UNDERSTAND!!!!. UFO'S ARE BEING PILOTED BY BEINGS FROM OTHER PLANETS WHO USE WORMHOLES TO TRAVEL VAST DISTANCES. UFO SIGHTINGS OCCUR ON A DAILY BASIS WORLDWIDE...AND TO THINK THAT THEY ARE JETS OR COMETS PROVES THAT THERE ARE IDIOTS BEYOND UNDERSTANDING.. IF YOU'VE DONE RESEARCH ABOUT THIS THEN I RECOMMEND YOU SPEND 20 YRS INVESTIGATING UFO'S AD GOVERNMENT COVERUPS.
