You need to contact the specific Apache tribe from which you descend!. There are about 10 federally recognized Apache tribes presently so you'd need to know which of the 10 you descend from and contact that tribe directly!. Speak to someone in enrollment!. Give them your ancestors name!. Your ancestor MUST appear on the tribe's base roll in order for you to proceed any further!. (BTW: Dawes applies to the "5 Civilized Tribes" only, the other 560 tribes use different rolls!.) If your ancestor is on the tribe's rolls they will be able to provide the documentation you need to show you are a descendant!. Depending on your blood quantum, residency, and other requirements, you may or may not be eligible to become enrolled yourself!. The tribe will make that decision and issue the appropriate paperwork!. Tribal enrollment/citizenship is a requirement for higher education funding opportunities reserved for American Indians and there are PLENTY of currently enrolled tribal members who are vying for these funds!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would suggest you go to the tribes website and see what they require!. However I do know that unless your ancestor was registered and on the Dawes Roll you won't get anywhere!. If scholarships are the only reason you are trying to prove your ancestry then stop!. All of the tribes have become very picky about who they let in!. The process is very long with lots of waiting!. So don't count on their helpWww@QuestionHome@Com

Yavapai-Apache require you to be on the official census roll as of April 1, 1934, with the supplement of January 1, 1936 or be 1/4 and be a descendant of someone on the list!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
