What is amusing to me is to see how names change from one area to another!. Common names would change as the pioneers moved westward and some were illiterate!! Spellings change and pronunciations, too!. When I see an odd spelling for a name, I will say, were your people from the Midwest and I usually get a yes!! Brothers, cousins would feud and change the spelling, too!. I worked with a Guiliano whose grandfather feuded with his brother coming to America!. When they came to Ellis Island, they spelled their family name differently!. One was Guiliano and the other brother was Guilani!. And they never reconciled!. One family moved to New Jersey!. They are the same family!. The Devenports and Davenports are the same family!.
Don't forget Smythes and Smiths!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
