First some history:
Native Americans occupied the land when the French started the first colony in Louisiana in 1682!. The French later gave Spain control of the Louisiana territory, which is when the first Spanish settlements began!. Enslaved people of color were brought by both French and Spanish settlers!. The Acadians (French settlers in Canada) were forced out of their Canadain settlements by the British, and also found their way to Spanish Louisiana!. The Acadians descendents are referred to as "Cajuns"!.

It was the first Louisiana-born French / Acadian French / Spanish / Black descendents who were called "Creoles"!.

So a Creole is either Louisiana-born, or a descendent of a Louisiana-born person; and has French or Acadian-French descent, mixed with either Spanish or Black descent, or both!. The first Creoles were born in the late 1600's and early 1700's!.

The British came from Great Britain and settled the northeastern part of the continent!. Americans did not come to Louisiana until Napoleon sold the territory to the US in the 1800's!.

As I understand it, is ONLY people of French, Spanish, and Black descent that can be called Creoles!. I do not believe that the English-French Louisiana born generations from the 1800's are considered Creoles!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
