www!.rootsweb!.com is a good place that you can start!.!. there is a guide to research on the front page!.
Couple of tips-
you don't need to work with a surname!. As you mention, Sanchez is common!. So!.!.focus on a single person at a time!. In fact, Sanchez will be the paternal name!.!. your mom normally has a different name at birth!. Your goal is to identify their parents, using documents!. Then, go to the next level!.
Beginning research is almost always OFF line!. Records of live persons should not be accessible on the internet!. Use private records, then once you reach the point where someone is no longer living, you start finding more historical records!.
It all takes time and energy!.!. but that's the challenge of it!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

"Sanchez" is a Spanish and Portuguese name meaning "son of Sancho"!. "Sancho" was a popular boy's name in mediaeval Spain and Portugal (it *may*come from Latin meaning "holy", or it may have been a native Iberian name), so in Latino countries there are many unrelated families called Sanchez!.

Brandenburg is a large province of East Germany, so as a surname it would mean "person from Brandenburg"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
