Not to put to fine a point on it, but Lanarkshire is a big county, and takes in the biggest Scottish city of them all, namely Glasgow!. Can't you be a bit more specific!? Haven't you found her in the 1851 and forward censuses to see if there is an actual specified place of birth rather than a random county!. Then at least you might have some idea of which OPR parish you might need to search!. Most of them are on the mormon website (familysearch!.org) or originsnetwork!.com!. scotlandspeople!.gov!.uk has the OPRs as well!. Obviously, all possible spelling variations need to be considered in any search, as Scottish names in particular have many many variant spellings!. Although post-1855 Scottish records are excellent and far better than their English equivalents, the pre-1855 records are quite often patchy and not terribly enlightening!. Burial records inparticular prior to 1855 are almost non-existant!. Some baptism and marriage entries aren't much better!. You are probably right at the limits of the possible!. There comes a point when working in Scotland becomes almost as hard as working in Ireland!. The records often just aren't conclusive enough for anyone to get back any further with any certainty!. If the census isn't helping you pin down a parish of birth more exactly than just Lanarkshire, then I'd say this is one of those cases!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
