I agree with the answer above, but depending on which era you are researching, it could also indicate a person who is being cared for by a nursemaid, i!.e!. a person who is able to breastfeed a baby when the mother can't or doesn't want to!. This used to happen a lot until quite recent times!. Think of Juliet of Romeo and Juliet who was constantly advised by her nursemaid!. The Victorian era made quite a use of nursemaids too!.
