Question: Where can I search records from Alsace-Lorraine before 1792!?
I am working on a genealogy for my family and I have worked back as far as a John Adams Pirson, born around 1780 in the Alsace-Lorraine region of France!. He, his wife and at least one child came over to NY in 1830!. I have very sketchy records of his wife's (Marie Elizabeth Schmidt) family being from the area as well!. I also have a little information that shows some connection, marriage or otherwise, to a Brua family!. also, I have information that says John and Marie were married in 1802 in "Hirshland or Saarlouis!." I don't know if these are regions or towns or what and I don't know where to search beyond what I have!.

Can anyone help me clear up the information I have and point me in the right direction!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree that the FamilySearch!.org site for Elsass-Lothringen is your best bet other than paying someone in Europe to go directly to the archives!.

However, you may be reaching the records roadblock caused by the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) when many records were destroyed and large numbers of the population were displaced!. After 1648 and into the mid 1700s, immigrants arrived from Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Lorraine, Savoy and other areas!.

Saarlouis is a city in the Saarland, Germany, located at the river Saar!. Lorraine became part of France in 1787 and a fortress was built there in 1680 to defend the new French Eastern frontier!. It was named after Louis XIV of France!.

There is a Hirschland, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, France!. Saarlouis and Hirschland are a considerable distance from each other!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would check to see what the LDS Family History Center in Salt Lake City - has on microfilm!.!.!.
