Question: I'm going to be an uncle, I need names!.!.!.!?
I'm going to be an uncle and my sister doesn't know what to name her kid!. She still doesn't know if it's either going to be a girl or a boy!. But, she wants a name (if it's a boy) that starts with the letter 'Y'!. And if it's a girl she wants the name to start with the letter 'T'!. Any suggestions!? Any offers!? Www@QuestionHome@Com

The problem with choosing the letter "Y" for a boy is that these names sometimes have comical connotations: Two of which easily come to mind: Yogi (Bear) and Yorick (as in the Hamlet quotation, "Alas, poor Yorick, I knew him well)!. Other well-known and thus pronounciable boy's names beginning with "Y" are usually picked for boys from non-English speaking countries, for instance, Yves and Yuri, so unless the baby is French or Russian they might cause some confusion later in life!. Your sister might also consider Yancey, Yardley, or Yale, although here again, Yardley calls to mind scented soap, and Yale sounds a little strange particularly when considering other possibilities for similar names, for example, Harvard or Princeton!.

Choosing the letter "T" for a baby girl's name is a little easier, as long as your sister steers clear of Tabitha, the daughter of the t!.v!. witch Samantha in the 1960's sitcom "Bewitched", Thelma (as in "Thelma and Louise"), and Tiffany, which was in style about two decades ago!. How do Tammy, Tara, Teresa, Tina, and Trish sound!? Your sister might also consider a unisex name like Taylor, Tyler, Tracy, or Terry--all of which are currently popular choices along the lines of the unisex predominantly girl's name Madison!. Of course, your sister could name her daughter Patricia, Antonia, or Christina and nickname the baby Trish, Toni, or Tina!.

Your sister should ask two questions when picking a name for her baby:

---How will a class of middle-school students react to the name twelve or thirteen years from now!? Remember if the name is unusual, your kid's substitute teacher will inevitably mispronounce it, and no one will know how to spell it!.

---How will the name sound if your child goes into a profession!? For example, Dr!. Yancey Jackson sounds a tad more prestigious than Dr!. Yogi Jackson, although I'm sure he'd be better than the average physician (to paraphrase a quote from a 1950's and 1960's cartoon) if only to make up for his given name!. Similarly, too cutsey a name right don't work for a woman!. Would you vote for Tammy Sue for Congress!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
