There is no such thing as a family crest!. A crest is part or a coat of arms!. Coats of arms do not belong to surnames!. They were and are granted to an individual man and are passed down through the direct legitimate male line of descent!. Sometimes a female is entitled to one if there is no male heir!. Only the oldest son inherits his father's upon his father's death!. All sons will obtain one but with some differences!.

There are many peddlers on the web, at airports, in magazines, in shopping malls, at fairs!. selling coats of arms like they belong to everyone with a particular surname and they don't!.

If this is a school assignment, go ahead and put coat of arms or the misnomer "family crest" in your search engine!.

However, please print off the 2 links, I am furnishing you and give them to your teacher!. also feel free to print off what I am posting here!.
