Question: American ancestry help!.!.!.!?
I have an ancestor from Oswego, NY!. His name was Samuel Holmes, father also called Samuel Holmes!. Problem is his name on the 1901 census is Daniel Holmes!. I have his sons WWI records and it says father Samuel, his marriage record also says Samuel!. Why does it say Daniel on the 1901 census!? It is the correct entry by the way, it has all the right children, their ages and his wife!. Can anyone find a Samuel Holmes born c1867 in Oswego, NY on an the American 1870 or 1880 census with the father Samuel to confirm his name please, and if possible send the original image to Josh_Turner6@msn!.com !? Thank you, JoshWww@QuestionHome@Com

Could Daniel have possibly been his middle name or be his first name and Samuel be his middle name!. I have noticed in my research alot of times on one census it will list by first name on another by middle name and I have even had it list only intials!. It's a very strong possiblity if all the other names and birth dates match along with his or are even within a year of one another because there were mistakes on that as well!. It's rare to have all the same family names and birthyears without it being the same person!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
