Question: Why do they wait 100 years to release a census!?
What is the point!? I can understand not releasing one in the last 20 years but a 100 year wait!? I know my ancestors were Russian and possibly a German jew and weren't on the 1901 Census!. There daughters were born in 1904 and 1909 so they must be on the 1911 census when it is released!. It's so frustrating!!! Ancestry!.co!.uk has released shipping records for outside Europe docking into England, is there any shipping records from within Europe!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Unless someone comes up with a bright idea, it's going to be worse for the 1941 Census, since there wasn't one taken that year which means a 20-year gap wait!.
My Mother was born Sept 1901, so I was able to view the Census with her brother, one year older, but have to wait an extra 10 years to see the one with my own mother!.
Have you found Naturalisation Papers for your Russians!?
My husband's grandfather was a Russian Jew who came here, aged 9, with his Uncle and I have a copy of uncle's papers in which he declares himself to the British Authorities, to be "a subject of the Czar of Russia"!. It also gives the Town from which the family came!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Josh, every country has a different waiting time which was originally based on privacy specifically relating to mental illness!. Clearly the law needs to be updated! Things have been made much more difficult for Canadians as of the taking of our last census!. The powers that be foolishly included a question on whether or not people wanted their information released PERIOD!. Most folks don't have a clue how little infor is released however if they checked that box, their ancestors will NEVER find out anything!. While frustrating to be sure, 100 years is better than never!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The UK is somewhat old fashioned with the 100 years rule to protect one's privacy ( how many 100 year olds do you know !? ) !. It would mean that normally the census would be open to all eyes on 1st January 2012 !. Fortunately some has already been released provided you want to pay for it ( I think about £60 ) and they propose to release it in stages in advance of the date !.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I went to the Register office here in Nottingham!. to get a birth certificate, the year of birth was 1855, I paid for the express service and when my certificate was completed, there was a mistake on it!. So I asked for it to be corrected and I would wait, I was actually shown the register that it was taken from so that I could be absolutely certain that they had the right person!. Although it was all those years ago the other births in the register were covered so that I didn't get a peak at them!. I asked why that had been done and I was told due to the DPA, (Data Protection Act!.)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

British privacy laws!. Over here we have a 70-year law, which is a lot better -- and although my dad didn't live to see his name on the 1940 US Census, I could show him his as-yet-unmarried mother's and father's, and all his grandparent's entries!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

because your dead after 100 years and no one can complain about privacy issues!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
